John Deere 8 HP snow is broken.?

I have a John Deere 8 hp snow, old enough. my father was using today launched .. turned on some issues and down the hall. then clunker a couple of times and quit, smoking engine … Does the engine to exploit what is wrong ..? I checked everything I could, Sounds good oil, gas, belts are well .. Not sure, but I have to fix it, we are in a storm .. It would be great if you could give me a little help .. Also when I pull the first time, it seems kind of lost, before it is harder to shoot, had to pull with both hands with your foot on the wheel so it wouldnt move, I can not pull it with one hand …. please help thanks

Based on the sound he heard and the lack of understanding now, I would say I broke the connecting rod or piston. The only way to tell for sure is to have the engine apart. You can remove the spark plug and a light in the hole while pulling the rope boot. You should see the piston moves up and down.
