Repair or replace damaged fender?
Recently I took on some minor damage to my drivers side fender. It is an ’06 Nissan Xterra. I went to Maaco and they told me that it would be better to fix the fender (with filler) so they could blend the paint on the fender without touching any other panels. They also said that if they were to replace the fender that they would have to paint other undamaged body parts as well, such as the hood and door in order for the paint to blend. To me, this seems strange because I thought with a matching paint, a seasoned painter should be able to match the finish without touching the other panels. Should I go somewhere else or take their advice and have the fender repaired?
It’s not matching the color,it’s matching the finish. It’s hard to duplicate a “factory” paint job on a large surface such as a fender or hood. But you can buff a small area to near perfection. I’d opt for the small repair
